When It Comes to Nutrition—We Have No Peer

“Eat right, exercise….and you’ll live a long and healthy life”. True? Well… yes and no.

Unfortunately, due to our inherited genes and environmental factors, this is not always the case.

For example,

Getting Enough Vitamins & Minerals

Much of the food we purchase today is devoid of necessary vitamins and minerals your body needs. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture the nutritional values has dropped significantly since 1975. For example, apples: vitamin A is down 41%; broccoli: calcium and vitamin A down by 50%; cauliflower: vitamin C by 45%, vitamin B1 by 48% and vitamin B2 by 47%. Minerals like iron and magnesium have dropped by more than 80%. Much of this is due to commercial-farming technology and powerful fertilizers that practically sterilize the soil— leaving it with little or no mineral content. If the soil doesn't have minerals, there’s no way for fruits and vegetables to absorb them. And that’s bad news for your health! It’s important that you supplement with a good quality pharmaceutical-grade multivitamin/multimineral.

Vital Nutrient that Depletes as We Age

Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10)  is vital for cell respiration (the cells’ ability to “breath”). This is especially important in your heart. Without oxygen, your heart cells die, your cardiac muscle is destroyed, and the muscle fibers are replaced with non-functional connective tissue. With enough damage, your heart will fail. The more CoQ10 available to the heart muscle cells, the longer they can “hold their breath.” When circulation is restored and cells are re-oxygenated, a salvage process occurs and damage is circumvented.

If you take statin drugs, like Zocor (Simvastatin), Lipitor, or Pravachol, you absolutely must supplement with CoQ10. Statin drugs block the synthesis of CoQ10. Your body cannot use what it does not have— and your body needs CoQ10.

CoQ10 is a naturally occurring compound created by our own body. But as we age our body’s ability to synthesize CoQ10 declines 20% every decade.  I recommend supplementing with CoQ10 to any one over the age of 25. In addition to keeping your heart healthy, supplementing with CoQ10, you will reap these benefits:

  • Decreased  blood pressure
  • Enhanced immune system
  • More energy
  • Reduced cholesterol
  • Stabilizes blood sugar
  • Prevent and treat periodontal disease
  • Slows dementia progression
  • Increased sperm count
  • Prevent migraine headaches

Essential Nutrients Depleted by Over-the-Counter and Prescription Drugs

Just as your amount of CoQ10 is depleted when taking a statin or beta-blocking drug, other medications also deplete your body of essential nutrients. Some of the more common ones are: Synthetic Hormone Replacement and Birth Control depletes vitamins D, B6, B12, calcium, magnesium, zinc and folic acid; Antibiotics deplete your body of healthy intestinal bacteria, vitamins B1, B2, B6, B12, K, folic acid, biotin and inositol; Aspirin depletes folic acid, vitamin C, iron, potassium and zinc; Acetaminophen (Tylenol) also depletes CoQ10, as well as glutathione (your master defense mechanism).

This is why it is not unusual that some people take a medication to relieve one malady. Then they develop another symptom from which they feel relief is needed. Many times this becomes a vicious cycle. Treating the symptoms, not the cause.

Avoiding Blood Clots

If you are taking aspirin in an attempt to DODGE THE BULLET of a dangerous blood clot and a serious heart, brain or lung problem, supplementing with nattokinase will enhance your body’s natural ability to fight blood clots, in ways that aspirin can’t. It’s advantage over aspirin and prescription blood thinners is its prolonged effect without side effects, and provides you with these additional health benefits:

  • Lower cholesterol
  • Improve blood pressure
  • Dissolves fibrin
  • Improve energy levels
  • Improve circulation
  • Enhances your own body’s production of plasmin and other clot-dissolving agents

So, yes, proper nutrition makes a difference in your health and longevity.

But did you know what you should NOT be eating can be just as important?

For instance, sugar is cancers best friend. Dr. Otto Warburg, physiologist and medical doctor, received the Nobel Prize, not once, but twice by proving beyond a shadow of a doubt that cancer cells cannot survive in an oxygen rich environment; and sugar destroys that. This has been proven by the abnormally high level of insulin receptors found on all cancer cells, averaging about 16 times more insulin receptor sites than normal cells.
